J. Michael Wattenbarger, M.D.

J. Michael Wattenbarger, M.D., is a board-certified pediatric orthopaedic surgeon and chief of staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville. Dr. Wattenbarger has extensive expertise in scoliosis and spinal deformity care with over two decades of experience. He has performed over 1,000 spinal procedures, including vertical expandable prosthetic titanium rib (VEPTR) device surgery. In addition to addressing all spinal conditions in children and adolescents, Dr. Wattenbarger practices general pediatric orthopaedics, including specialization in cerebral palsy, clubfoot, myelomeningocele, skeletal dysplasia and other congenital deformities.

Prior to joining the Greenville Shriners Hospital in 2015, Charlotte Business Journal repeatedly recognized Dr. Wattenbarger as a “Top Doctor." He was instrumental in the formation of the esteemed OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s largest pediatric orthopaedic groups, and served as the practice’s first co-president.

A husband and father of three, Dr. Wattenbarger has traveled as a medical missionary to Africa where he offered his far-reaching orthopaedic knowledge and guidance to local surgeons.
