Recently, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville recognized Mikey as our Hero of the Month.

The Hero of the Month award is sponsored by Kids Wish Network. Kids Wish Network provides each Hero with a $100 gift card from Wal-Mart, a Hero of the Month t-shirt and a Hero of the Month certificate.

Mikey’s mom sent Kids Wish Network this wonderful thank you email:

Thank you so much for recognizing our son, Michael [last name withheld] “Mikey.” As a varsity athlete at the high school level, he was devastated by the broken bone and surgery in football since baseball is his first love; and the break was in his pitching arm. Shriners Hospital is an amazing place they truly know how to motivate and do what is best for each child they treat. The surgeons, nurses, physical therapist and staff were amazing with Mikey. He did everything he was asked to do and they even gave him exercises to do at home to make sure he had a full recovery for his senior spring baseball season. Any question he asked was given a detailed explanation so he could understand the healing process. When his therapist told us she had recommended him for the Hero of the Month it boosted his determination to work even harder! Thank you for providing such a wonderful program – it really does mean a lot even to the “big kids.” Mikey was excited about his gift card and he has ordered camping gear that should arrive this week with it. As a parent, I would like to thank you for the work you do to bring recognition to those who work diligently.

We are happy to hear Mikey was able to begin playing baseball at the start of the season and is doing great.
