Support services

At Shriners Hospitals for Children — Twin Cities, care is delivered in a family-centered model, which means the patient and family are the focus. In addition to high-quality medical care, we have the following support services.

Patient and Family Advisory Council

We are looking for patients and/or family members to serve on our Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC). Patient/family members will work collaboratively with staff to promote family-centered care and advise staff members on various aspects of the patient/family experience. We are looking for PFAC members to commit to quarterly meetings over a two–year term. If you are interested or have additional questions, please contact Sara Zimmerman, social worker, via email or phone 612-596-6126. Sara will provide an application for those interested. School services

School services are available for school aged children who will be hospitalized for two weeks or longer during the school year. Classroom outreach is also available through the child life department, which may include interactive presentations regarding your child’s medical journey presented in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Recreation areas

There are several recreation areas and play rooms available to patients and families including the outpatient clinic lobby on the first floor, the child life game room and the inpatient game room on the second floor. These areas are equipped with toys, board games, video games and puzzles for a variety of ages and developmental stages. Volunteers and staff from our child life department facilitate daily activities throughout the hospital.

Internet access/computer use

Computers with printing access are located in clinic and surgery waiting areas. WIFI access is available using our PFA network.

Interpreter services

Shriners Hospitals for Children — Twin Cities offers interpretive services for you and your child. It is vital to ensure that you have accurate information about your child’s care. We have one Spanish interpreter on site and use per-diem interpreters and telephonic interpreter services for other languages. Please contact registration at 612-596-6106 to request interpreter services prior to your appointment.

Outgoing mail can be sent using the mailbox located at the entrance of the hospital. Arrangements can be made through the materials management department for mailing larger packages. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the parent/patient. Mail received after a patient is discharged will be forwarded to the home address of the patient.


The Security team at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Twin Cities provides on-site service 24-hours a day. The security staff will escort you to the parking garage upon request. If you have safety concerns or would like a security escort, please call the security guard at 612-363-9217.


An ATM machine is available in the clinic lobby. Fees may apply.
