Jacob T. Stephenson, M.D.

Jacob T. Stephenson, M.D., is a pediatric surgeon at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California and the University of California Davis Medical Center.

Dr. Stephenson is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. His military medical experience includes being deployed to a mobile field surgical team at the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Previously, Dr. Stephenson worked as a pediatric surgeon at David Grant USAF Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California, the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia, Langley Air Force Base in Virginia and the Carilion Clinic in Virginia.

Dr. Stephenson has held several teaching positions, including being an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., which trains members of the Armed Forces and civilians to work in the military and federal health systems. He was the associate program director for teaching surgical skills at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, which provides state-of-the-art medical simulation training. He also is a visiting professor of pediatric surgery at a hospital in Cameroon.

Dr. Stephenson has extensive experience practicing medicine abroad. He has taken several advanced surgical training courses, including one in pediatric surgical oncology. He is board-certified in pediatric surgery and general surgery. Dr. Stephenson has earned nearly $500,000 in federal medical research grants. He has presented at numerous medical conferences and published extensively in medical journals on a variety of surgical topics, including abdominal surgery and treating a type of thoracic malformation.

Dr. Stephenson’s professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Pediatric Surgical Association, International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, Society of Air Force Clinical Surgeons and Christian Medical Association.
