All continuing education programs organized by Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City are designed to ensure that the best practices are passed on to those who will care for the most vulnerable among us. Programs include medical lectures, all-day seminars, nursing conferences and hands-on workshops.

Shriners breakfast and lunchtime lectures and seminars

These free lectures provide an opportunity for employees and the community to learn about several topics relevant to work and everyday life. We encourage you to take a few minutes out of your day, bring a brown bag breakfast or lunch and enjoy the lecture! Past presentations include:

Basic Life Support course

We are proud to offer the Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers course in our facility at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City. The BLS program (a one-day American Heart Association-approved course) provides high-quality CPR training (applicable to adults, children and infants), the AHA Chain of Survival, use of an AED, effective ventilations using a barrier device and the importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and relief of a foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and children.

The course is free for all Shriners Hospital employees. There is a small fee for nonhospital participants. The class is offered monthly. To participate in the class and for more information, please contact Kelly Gibbons at 801-536-3633.

Job shadow opportunities

The job shadow experience is a wonderful chance to see first-hand a career you may be considering at Shriners Hospitals for Children. The job shadow experience is available for students pursuing a vocation in the medical field and is scheduled with approval from the physician and/or department manager. Due to the small size of our facility, there may be a waiting list and it may take several weeks before your shadowing date is scheduled. Shadowing experiences are limited to one to three days.
