Nancy Murphy, M.D.

Nancy Murphy, M.D.

Nancy Murphy, M.D., is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City. She is a clinical professor of pediatrics and adjunct professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Utah. Dr. Murphy is also chief of the Division of Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and pediatric medical director at South Davis Community Hospital, a specialty hospital for children with disabilities. Dr. Murphy developed and directs the Pediatric Comprehensive Care Program at Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH). This unique service provides coordinated subspecialty care for children with complex, chronic conditions and high medical fragility. She is also an active member of PCH’s Ethics Committee. 

Dr. Murphy’s clinical work is dedicated to the care of children with disabilities, with a focus on pain and spasticity management. She lectures widely on topics, including motor delays, parent-provider partnerships, cerebral palsy and children with medical complexity. Dr. Murphy’s research focuses on the health, function and quality of life for children with disabilities and their families. She has published over 50 articles, chapters, case reports, editorials and abstracts in her medical specialties.

When asked about her work, Dr. Murphy said, “If I were to start over again, I would choose the exact same specialty. Caring for children with disabilities and their families is a privilege and an honor. They inspire me daily.”

Dr. Murphy enjoys spending time with her beloved friends and family, including her three sons and one daughter-in-law. Her hobbies include hiking, reading, listening to music of all genres and long walks with her oversized dog.
