Are you a Champion for LOVE?

Each year Shriners Hospitals for Children — Salt Lake City invites supporters to come to the hospital and join in an incredible fundraising event in September, the Walk for LOVE™. The 1.5-mile walk, which starts at the hospital at the corner of Virginia Street and 11th Avenue in Salt Lake City, attracts over 100 patients and their families to be part of the crowd of 1,000 each year.

It is a day of celebrating the patients. Participants walk, play games, visit the teddy bear clinic and participate in many activities. But it is also a fundraiser, the only fundraiser the hospital throws for itself all year. In 2018, Champions for LOVE was launched, a recognition program for the top fundraisers among the walk’s participants. The first year's winner was Team Zach Attack, a team started by the parents of Shriners Hospital patient Zach, who has been receiving care from the hospital since he was less than 1.

Carrie, Zach’s mom, said that raising money for Shriners Hospitals for Children makes her heart happy. “The hospital has done so much for us since Zach was born. I don't want to imagine where we would be without the help, both financially and support. If this money can go to help other kids like Zach, it is the least we can do.”

In 2018, Zach’s family set the goal to raise at least $500, but blew that goal out of the water by raising almost $3,500!

Carrie attributes their success to their amazing friends and family. “They have all seen first-hand how much Shriners Hospital has helped Zach,” said Carrie. “All we have to do is ask. We post on Facebook and send emails. Our community takes care of the rest!”

When Carrie and her husband watched their community propel them quickly to the top of the leader board, they were incredibly touched. “The support we receive from our family and friends means more than I can put into words,” said Carrie. “They have been there for us through it all and their continued support just speaks volumes. We would be lost without them!”

The Walk for LOVE registration platform makes it easy. Each participant who registers online is automatically given a fundraising page to help them reach their goal.
