Shriners Hospitals for Children and University of Utah logos

The Utah Clubfoot Clinic is a collaboration between Shriners Hospitals for Children and The University of Utah Department of Orthopaedics.

We offer comprehensive diagnosis, and specialized treatment and management of clubfoot for infants, children and adolescents, as well as prenatal consultations when clubfoot has been diagnosed during pregnancy. Our specialists also collaborate to provide care for children with related conditions, such as developmental dysplasia of the hip, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, arthrogryposis and other complex issues.

Hospital tours are available upon request for families before treatment begins.

Understanding clubfoot

Clubfoot (talipes equinovarus) is a congenital condition in which one or both feet are turned inward and upward due to shortened and tight tissues (tendons) that connect leg muscles to the foot. If left untreated, clubfoot can prevent a child from walking normally. While this diagnosis can be frightening for parents, in most cases, treatment is very successful and the foot or feet can be repositioned to a normal state.

Treatment of clubfoot

Treatment of clubfoot usually begins shortly after birth, within one to three weeks. However, older children can also be treated and have successful outcomes.
