David Worel

David Worel

David Worel of Fairbanks, Alaska, is serving his first year as a member of the Boards of Directors for Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children. He was elected Imperial Outer Guard, part of the 12-member body that helps govern the Shriners fraternity, during the Shriners’ 2019 Imperial Session – held in Nashville, Tennessee, June 30 – July 4.

Worel has been a member of the Board of Governors for Shriners Hospitals for Children — Portland since 2013 and Chairman of the Board since 2018. He served on the hospital’s Governance Committee from 2017 to 2018.

Worel was raised to Master Mason in Edison Park Lodge in 1989, in Park Ridge, Illinois. He served as Grand Master of Masons in Alaska in 2014. He has served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Chairman of Fraternal Relations since 2015. Worel is a Past Rainbow Dad and is a recipient of DeMolay Legion of Honor.

Worel’s affinity for Shriners International started when he was very young and his father was a Shriner. He grew up to become a member of Al Aska Shriners in Anchorage, Alaska, and served as Potentate in 2010. His temple received the Gold Award for membership in 2010 and he was Regional Membership Director from 2016 through 2018. He is currently Chairman of Masonic Relations and is a member of the Futures Committee.

Worel’s York Rite service and honors include: Grand Master of the Grand Council Cryptic Masons and Cryptic Mason of the year for 2011-2012; Grand Commander of the Grand Commandry, Knights Templar of Alaska; Grand High Priest Grand Chapter of Alaska; Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Past Prior; York Rite Sovereign College Alaska, Past Governor; Pillar of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Past Perceptor; and Red Cross of Constantine, Past Puissant Sovereign.

He is a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Deputy Sovereign Grand Inspector General and a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. He is also a member of Great Priory of America, Chevaliers Bienfaisants de la Cite Sainte.

From 1983 to 1992, Worel served with distinction in the United States Air Force, specializing in the planning, installation and management of critical communications and controls systems. Worel is owner and CEO of Northern Lights Services, Worel LLC and Business Consultants HVAC, all based in Fairbanks, Alaska. His companies employ 20 people and have annual sales in excess of $2.8 million.

Worel and his wife, Kathy, have been married since 2001. Between them they have six children, Ami, Shane, James, Peter, Emily and Robert; and six grandchildren, Jace, Mary Ann, Lorna, Angel, Ben and Mia. Worel attends the Episcopal Church.
