Get On Track for a Safe Summer

Summer is a time of going to the playground, swimming, boating, biking, camping and other outdoor activities. Unfortunately, these activities can lead to a higher risk of injuries.

Shriners Hospitals for Children wants to reduce the risk of childhood injuries by asking everyone to stay On Track for a Safe Summer.

Lawn mower safety

Thousands of children are severely injured by lawn mowers every year. Most lawn mower-related injuries can be prevented by following some simple safety guidelines. Please remember:

Children must be at least 12 years old to operate a push mower.
Children must be at least 16 years old to operate a riding mower.

Summer is known as “trauma season” among public health and medical professionals because unintentional deaths and serious injuries increase dramatically among children during these months.

The good news is that many of these injuries may be preventable by following some simple tips and learning how to avoid accidents and injuries.
